Course Summary

This session will cover Autism and how it exists in children as developmental conditions that stays with the person throughout their life. This course draws upon all the leading evidence-based research in autism and gives a balanced view of how to support a child or young person with autism in your setting.

This course is a ‘must have’ course for all practitioners supporting children with autism and gives the delegate a foundation of knowledge and expertise to use in their own practise.

What the course will cover

• Background into the changing legislation in Autism and the most current changes in the diagnosis of autism
• Autism and co-morbidity
• Autism and learning difficulties and how to support children that are high functioning on the spectrum
• Practical strategies to use both in and out of the classroom
• Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and how anxieties can affect children and young people with autism individually
• Autism and restricted eating – how can we support children with autism and restricted diets
• What is the future for children and young people with autism? How can we shape our provisions to bring out the best for our children and young people?
